Robert Shillady is an artist, carpenter and jack-of-all trades living in Brooklin, Maine. He grew up in Connecticut and Cape Cod, where primitive painter Ralph Cahoon befriended him. Shillady spent his 20's and early 30's showing in New England galleries and museums and national print shows, then finally admitted that he is simply not equipped to deal with the formal art world. He moved to Maine, built a house with his own hands, and now paints in the basement. Against the advice of his betters, he often spends an entire year working on one painting. He is a lieutenant in the Brooklin Fire Department and coaches a junior high Odyssey of the Mind team with heavy emphasis on shaving cream fights. His triptych, Brooklin 1995, is on permanent display in the Brooklin Elementary School, which commissioned it through the Maine Percent for Art program. He can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org or P.O. Box 11, Brooklin ME 04616 (207-359-2123).
