Both we in Sunset and Ann Hooke in Mountainville saw Garter Snakes yesterday. Ann also saw Spotted Salamander (?) eggs. I checked one vernal pool and found 3 in. ice! But also today poplars in bloom. Yesterday the Red-necked Grebe was still here as are Buffleheads.

1st. Vesper Sparrows seen today here on Pertville Road. I'm guessing that they are the annual nesting birds here on the barrens rather than ones moving through to destinations further to the north?
