When I got closer to the group I found that they were mobbing an adult female MERLIN. Shortly after counting the chickadees the merlin buzzed the group and then there were 19.

April 30th 6:00 P.M. Wow..... Our first Humming Bird of the year, we're assuming Ruby Throated, but feeding on the backside of our feeder prevented a genuine I.D.

On a morning walk at Kingdom Woods Conservation Area in Blue Hill I saw/heard lots of Yellow-rumped Warblers and Golden-crowned Kinglets as well as first of year Ruby-crowned Kinglet (stunning!), Blue Headed Vireo, Black and White Warbler and Swamp Sparrow. Also there have been good numbers of Broad-winged Hawks almost everywhere I looked this weekend. A Snow Goose was with 3 Canada Geese at the Sedgwick marsh, along with Ring-necked Ducks, Hoodies and Mallards.

VESPER SPARROW 1 present today. My FOY for this species was on 4/19/09. Since then 1 to 3 have been eating millet off the ground or on a large rock daily. They have nested in the adjacent blueberry barrens to my home every breeding season for the last 8 years and I would suspect for many years before that time.

Heard Pine and Yellow-rumped Warblers while picking up roadside trash today near the Falls. The Osprey Pair that spends the summer at the point near the Falls is rebuilding the nest destroyed in last winter's storms. I first found them back at the nest on April 17.
