My baby bluebirds fledged today- 5 of them! Their parents are calling constantly out in the field, I suppose to keep them in line!
Also, we have been hosting a male rose-breasted grosbeak for 2 days... first time he's hung around this year and he has been singing all day as well. I've enjoyed all the activity!

Just an addendum to Leslie's report of Canadian Swallowtail butterflies--I too, have never seen so many here. FINALLY had a B-t blue warbler singing in our woods. Also have a great-crested flycatcher.

For some strange reason email alerts have not been going out as usual. I am trying to resolve the problem.

Has anyone else noticed how many Tiger Swallowtail butterflies there are flitting about? I have never seen so many- it's a pleasure especially since the birds have quieted down!

Northern Cardinal at my feeder this morning. (I had heard it singing yesterday afternoon and wondered if my ears deceived me.) This may seem unsurprising, but it is in fact the first cardinal I've seen or heard on our property since we began coming/living here in 1998 (although cardinals are common enough elsewhere on the peninsula).
Nothing else of much note. There do seem to be more Purple Finches this year than in past years, though.

It was Cedar Waxwings, not Chickadees.
