Partners Edee Howland, Nancy Dewey Wood and I had another fantastic Owl night April 8 from 1 to 6 a.m. on Deer Isle. Our favorite stop on the Reach Road was soo exciting as 2 Great Horned Owls were calling to one another when we arrived , along with a Northern Sawhet Owl in the distance, and Nancy looked up above us to see a Barred Owl watching us the whole time as we turned our boom box on and off with the different calls. The last stop on Little Deer Isle around 5.00a.m. by a small pond was also thrilling as we thought, but weren't quite sure ,we heard a Short-Earred Owl.We loved hearing the Raven wake up call and every time he did a group of wild Turkeys answered with gobbles, who sounded like they were still in the trees. An American Woodcock started his call and flight then something splashed at the Pond.We were rejuvenated by all the sounds.

10+ GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET Blue Hill Peninsula has been nearly totally devoid of this species for last 3 mons. until the last 2 days. 3 BROWN CREEPER heard song over and over again! One of the members of our party is 90% certain of spotting a RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET. Person didn't want to call it because of not being able to see enough identification marks to make it an absolute. Seems a bit early but a very few are seen from April 1st. & on. GRAY JAY spotted by Ed. Thrush seen but views were not good. Likely a hermit. RUFFED GROUSE 4 RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH HOODED MERGANSER (pair) RING-NECKED DUCK (pair) COMMON LOON Chip Moseley along with Sal Rooney, Ed Hawks, and Leslie Clapp

I didn't really expect to see much this afternoon, but the birds kept pulling me in. In Blue Hill today: Pied-billed Grebe, American Bittern, Ring-Necked Duck (near St. Francis church); Turkey Vulture; Belted Kingfisher and American Kestrel (near Carleton Stream); Black Scoters off Blue Hill Falls. I also saw a Phoebe and heard a drumming Ruffed Grouse yesterday. But I've yet to see Fox Sparrows this spring...

Rebekah beat us on Fox Sparrows again this year! We had two Fox Sparrows and a Song Sparrow arrive in our yard today and they were pecking around in the leaves and under the feeders. One or a few juncos have been around for several days, and there were 2 robins in our yard on Thursday.
