This morning we had our first flock of Bohemian Waxwings checking out the crabapples. There were 7 of them. The Summer Tanager is still here and a Baltimore Oriole was competing with Blue Jays at the feeder and winning! Last night we had some excitement- a lady who lives on the side of Blue Hill Mountain called with what she thought was an injured duck in her driveway at 8 PM. We went up to check it out and it was a Red-throated Loon on the ground by her house. We transported it to South Blue Hill wharf and eased it into the water and it paddled off, flapped its wings, and took off flying south, appearing perfectly healthy. I suppose it might have seen a reflection in their glassed in deck and thought it could have been water? Anyway, a happy ending to that story.

We had a Baltimore Oriole in our yard all day yesterday eating crabapples. He was quite a sight in the snow storm. Flocks of Canada Geese have been flying over all weekend, heading southwest. We also had a Northern Harrier fly over fairly low this afternoon (yard first) and a Sharp-shinned Hawk (frequent visitor) also made an appearance. The Red-bellied Woodpecker is still hanging around.
