The Northern Shrike continues to hunt my feeder, threatening doves and blue jays...they seem pretty big for it but they do scatter! He has been seen 2 of the last 3 days, including today.

A Red-throated Loon today at the Falls, along with 16 Red-necked Grebes and approx. 1800 Common Eiders. Chip Moseley and I counted 9 Red-throated Loons off Dunham Point yesterday.

14 Purple Sandpipers on a ledge not far from the reversing falls, the first ones I have seen this fall in the upper Bay.

Update as of November 1: approx. 2000 Common Eider in the Raft at the Falls yesterday, with 5 Red-necked Grebe and one lingering juvenile Double-crested Cormorant. approximately 1650 Common Eider in the raft today with a handful of Black Duck and Red-necked Grebe. Approximately 700 Long-tail Duck in the middle of the Bay.

Here is an update as of Oct 29, near low tide: 1550 Common Eider 500 Long-tailed Duck (near the East Blue Hill shore) 4 Common Loon 1 Black-backed Gull 35 Herring Gull

1400 Common Eider in the currents near the Falls 160 Long-tailed Duck in the middle of the Bay off the Falls 1 Common Loon 1 DC Cormorant Smaller numbers of Common Eider have been at the Falls since early October.

Location: Scott's Landing Observation date: 10/14/09 Notes: I would estimate that we witnessed 2000 passerines migrating southward in the 1hr.and 20 minutes that we collected data. Most of the birds were passing high overhead so that species could not be determined. Location: Scott's Landing Observation date: 10/9/09 Notes: Sal Rooney and I worked this patch for 2 1/2 hours this AM. I would estimate that we witnessed ~2000 passerines passing through. It was impossible to keep track of the RCKI but I would guess that the number was more like 200+. Number of species: 34 Yellow-bellied Sapsucker 12, Northern Flicker (Yellow-shafted)8, Red-eyed Vireo 1, Golden-crowned Kinglet 3, Ruby-crowned Kinglet 100, Hermit Thrush 1, American Robin 150, Gray Catbird 2, Yellow-rumped Warbler (Myrtle)30, Black-throated Green Warbler 2, Palm Warbler (Yellow)11, Common Yellowthroat 3, Song Sparrow 8, Swamp Sparrow 5,White-throated Sparrow 25, White-crowned Sparrow 1, Dark-eyed Junco (Slate-colored)22, Northern Cardinal 2, Rose-breasted Grosbeak 1
